Collector Story: Sarah Powers
Artist Sarah Powers shares her story, the other side of the coin from Dabney Sanders’ story! Dabney collected Sarah:
collecting….and being collected
“I grew up in a house full of art. My father is an artist and a conissour of objects (art, antiques, relics…) who was always moving his collection around to keep our houses interesting and beautiful. He even created or found artwork for our childhood rooms.
So when i became an artist, I knew what i made would go out into the world. And as my collection grows, i can appreciate how exciting it is to choose artwork for your own life/house/world.
After art school, I found work in a gallery. This line of work is perfect- i can share my enthusiasm for art as well as my firm belief that everyone needs more art in their lives.
What surprised me most, though, was how touched and honored i would be if someone wanted to live with my work. It is a wonderful compliment for an artist to buy my work, as they know what I’m up to and still like it! It is also wonderful for a friend to purchase my work. I know how much it means to me to know the artists who i collect. So, when I heard Dabney and Walker purchased a piece of mine at Collectors Choice, i was thrilled. I have know them for a long time and know how much they enjoy the art in their collection. The work has gone to a great place.”
